A Thought-Provoking Conversation Inspired by “How to Be Rich” on Netflix
While watching the “How to get Rich” series on Netflix the other day, I had a thought provoking conversation with none other than yours truly. Yes, my inner self is apparently an expert on all things wealth-related. Who knew?
In the past, I would typically avoid watching shows that made you feel guilty about your spending and life choices. I mean, who wants a TV show telling us we need to change when we’re perfectly happy with our lives? Let me be, I’m content living my best life!
However, During my husband’s recent business trip, while he was away, I found myself facing a dilemma. As I settled down for the night, I realized that I couldn’t find anything interesting to watch. It was one of those moments when you just want to unwind and relax before bedtime, but the options in front of me seemed lackluster.
Lo and behold, by stepping out of my comfort zone to stop and watch, I have discovered that I am not faring terribly in my midlife years. Although the invincibility I felt in my youth has begun to fade, and the realities of aging have become more apparent. Yet, amidst these changes, there is a sense of contentment that can be found in appreciating what I have achieved thus far, no matter how modest it may be.
When it comes to defining what constitutes “a lot of money” it’s subjective and varies from person to person. Each individual has their own unique financial circumstances and priorities.
What do you consider a Success?
Watching this series has helped me realize I am not far off track and how fortunate I am to have a husband who takes charge of our major expenses, and outings, allowing me the freedom and flexibility to allocate funds that I earn towards my personal pursuits.
The income that I earn through my own efforts and dedication, may not bring a lot to the table. But it does add a sense of accomplishment and independence to our partnership and gives me purpose.
I have found that living a rich life goes far beyond financial success. It is about finding true happiness and fulfillment in every aspect of our lives. While financial stability is important, it is not the sole indicator of a rich life.
Defining what a rich life truly means is a personal journey that varies for each individual. It involves understanding what brings us joy, purpose, and contentment. It means aligning our values with our actions and making choices that lead to genuine happiness.
Success and happiness are not one-size-fits-all concepts. They are unique to each person’s aspirations and desires. For some, success may be measured by professional achievements or material possessions, but for others, it may be found in meaningful relationships, personal growth, or making a positive impact on the world.
To live your rich life, take the time to reflect on what truly matters to you. Identify your passions and values, and make them the guiding principles in your decision-making process. Embrace experiences over possessions and focus on cultivating meaningful connections with others.
For me, richness lies not only in accumulating wealth but also in cherishing moments of joy, practicing gratitude, nurturing well-being, and contributing to the well-being of others.
Finding purpose is at the core of living a rich life. It’s about aligning our actions with our values and making a positive difference in the world around us. When we find meaning in what we do, every day becomes an opportunity for growth and fulfillment.
Embrace the journey of defining your own version of a rich life – one that brings you lasting happiness and fulfillment – because ultimately, it is within our power to create a life worth living.
